Fasinada

The custom of Fasinada has both symbolic and practical meaning. On the 22nd of July, 1452, an icon of the Virgin was found on a small crag in the sea. On that place on the island of Lady of the Rock (Gospa od Skpjela) was built a church. Since then, it has been the unwritten promise of Perast sailors to drop a new rock around the island before every voyage they make. Nowadays, on this day every year, people bring stones in their boats and drop them into the sea around the island. Adding rocks, they celebrate Virgin and reinforce the island which is constantly washed and eroded by the sea.

During the Fasinada, in front of the St. Nikola church there will be entertaining musical program. Also, in association with Yachting club "Lahor" from Kotor and Association "Friends of Perast" there will be organized yachting cup during the 21^st and 22^nd of July named "Fasinada Cup".

As the organizers announced, there will be about 61 yachts competing with 246 competitors coming from different countries such as Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, USA, Russia and Montenegro. Awarding is on 22^nd of July on island Lady of the Rock (Gospa od Skrpjela) at 20.30h with with adequate entertainment, seafood lunch and traditional choir singers from Boka Bay- klape!

The most successful yachting crew will take home artistic shaped statue in bronze.

Winners privilege is to set up on the island lighthouse stainless plate with the name of the ship and crew, as the association of the largest collection of Mediterranean vows in silver tiles - in the church of Our Lady of the Rocks.
